Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Students Affairs and Research

The newly established Academics, Students Affairs, and Research (ASAR) division at JOOUST integrates a comprehensive approach to higher education and research. The division encompasses academic affairs, emphasizing market-driven programs endorsed by the Commission for University Education (CUE) and rooted in scientific research, innovation, and industry collaboration. This aligns JOOUST's academic offerings with global initiatives such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, African Union Agenda 2063, and Kenya Vision 2030.

Furthermore, ASAR oversees student affairs, nurturing a conducive environment for co-curricular activities including sports, drama, music, and student governance. These activities complement the academic curriculum, providing students with holistic development opportunities and setting JOOUST graduates apart.

Under the ASAR umbrella, the Research Innovation and Outreach initiatives focus on securing and managing grants from various international bodies. This includes impactful projects funded by organizations like the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Flemish inter-university council (VLIR-UOS) in Belgium, and collaborations with renowned Belgian universities. These partnerships facilitate scholarships and capacity-building programs in diverse fields, supporting research and academic advancement.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, ASAR has successfully obtained grants from esteemed organizations such as the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) and the British Council's Innovation for African Universities (IAU) Programme 2021. Additionally, the division has secured research grants from entities like Danida, WHO, the National Research Fund Kenya, and NRF South Africa.

Beyond academics and research, ASAR remains committed to community empowerment. Collaborative efforts with Silk Origin Limited aim to establish mulberry plantations for sericulture research, benefitting local farmers and contributing to the textile industry's growth. This project seeks to empower local communities economically while fostering international market access for their products. Through ASAR's multifaceted approach, JOOUST is dedicated to academic excellence, student development, impactful research, and community engagement.
